My paintings are primarily about the power of nature; her mystery and her moods:  secretive, serene, brooding or exuberant.  I paint what I love to look at, depicting my subjects in their natural state: mountains and meadows without man, flowers without vases.

Whether an expansive landscape or a diminutive bract, by connecting to nature, we are conveyed back to our source, a respite from the exigencies of modern life and it’s sensory overload.  As the human animal devours the natural environment in careless, often reckless excess, I find peace in contemplating a natural world unsullied by fast food chains, condo complexes and cookie cutter shopping malls.  I focus on sunlight and clouds, time of day and rhythm of seasons, atmosphere and topography.

I am fascinated with the architectural qualities of a flower, an intricate origami of form.

I am fortunate to divide my time between the high desert of Mexico and the verdant peninsula of Italy.  Both are rich is wild open spaces and in Italy, a conscientiously preserved, historical heritage of landscape tradition.  Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the immensity of the beauty,  and I consider it a privilege and an extraordinary challenge to try to convey its powerful emotional effect onto a canvas with some colors and brushes.
